The Information Technology and IT Enabled Services sector in India is looking towards Tier-II and Tier-III cities to meet the growing demands of the industry for sourcing its required skilled manpower. The youth of Manipur have not only excelled in the field of Sports, but have already established a noticeable presence in the ITES industry in India. Many of these young professionals have shown enterprise and skills that have raised them to higher management positions in the industry.

IT industry can look to Manipur as a small but good source for IT manpower produced by such Institutions as:

  • Manipur University - Dept. of Computer Science (MCA course)

  • Manipur Institute of Technology (B.Tech.-Computer Science)

  • DOEACC Imphal Centre (DOEACC A & B levels, MCA courses)

  • Various Franchisees of Reputed IT Training organisations

  • Manipur Institute of Management (MIMS) produces MBAs.

To enhance the employability of the educated youth in the ITES and Hospitality sectors, soft-skills training is also imparted by private sector institutions. The pool of talented manpower from Manipur is getting well aligned to the needs of the IT/ITES industry. Broadly, the goal of the Government of Manipur is working to facilitate the production and training of the educated English-speaking youth of Manipur with the IT qualifications and skill-set required by the IT/ITES industry for their employment.
